Release: Fink's "Sovereignty" Agenda

PHOENIX - After assuming office in January 2025, State Rep. Lisa Fink introduced a radical slate of bills branded as "Make Arizona Sovereign Again." Her agenda exposed her ideological rigidity and willingness to endanger the state’s stability for ideological purity.
Fink’s “sovereignty” agenda includes:
A 2020 election denier and endorser of January 6th proponents, Fink’s agenda reinforces her extremist views.
HB 2059 - Thwarting Regulation: This bill is rooted in a modern theory of “Nullification.” It would have prohibited Arizona from enforcing federal regulations involving coal, oil, and gas. Fink either didn’t know or didn’t care that non-compliance with federal standards often triggers the withholding of federal funds—a potential loss of hundreds of millions of dollars for Arizona. The bill specifically shielded extractive industries. Fink said this was for "economic prosperity," but in reality, it allowed mining and oil companies to bypass pollution controls at the expense of Arizona taxpayers.
HB 2060 - Election Denial: A direct mutation of the “Big Lie” charade, this bill was based on the false premise that non-citizens are deciding Arizona elections; Fink’s bill would have required federal elections in Arizona to follow state rules concerning voter registration, citizenship, residency, and identification. Given past litigation on the matter, the bill was designed to trigger a new lawsuit that taxpayers would have had to fund. It passed the Legislature before being vetoed.
Fink’s opponent, Deborah Howard, who has often pushed back on the sovereignty agenda, identified Fink for what she is:
“Lisa Fink is an instrument of the far right. She has shown time and again that her personal convictions outweigh established law or the will of her constituents. At a time when costs are skyrocketing, and taxpayers need help, this rogue lawmaker is prioritizing a costly extremist agenda instead of pursuing common-sense solutions. It’s time to fire Fink.”
